1. Mush the banana in a plastic bag completely until all the lumps are gone.
2. Fill a cup with hot water and salt
3. Pour the saltwater mixture in the bag. Tie the plastic bag and very gently
squeeze to combine the banana and saltwater together. Do this for 30 – 40
seconds.
4. Untie the plastic bag and add the dishwashing liquid in the bag. Gentle mix
the contents and make sure to avoid making too much foam.
5. Fold the katsa/lampin and place it on top of a glass bottle. Tie it with a
rubber band on the lid of the glass bottle to secure the katsa or lampin.
6. Pour the mixture into the katsa/lampin to filter and let it sit until all the
liquid drips down to the glass bottle.
7. Remove and discard the remaining mixture on the katsa/lampin.
8. Tilt the glass bottle and slowly add the cold alcohol on side of the cup. You
want the alcohol to form a layer on the top of the banana mixture, staying
separated so be careful not to pour it too fast. Make a layer of alcohol that is
3-5cm thick.
9. After the alcohol is set up, wait for eight minutes. You may see bubbles and
cloudy material moving around in the alcohol. This is the DNA pieces of
banana clumping together.
10.Use the barbeque stick to start collecting the cloudy stuff by spinning it to
slowly gather. Now remove the cloudy material from the glass mixture. You
have now the DNA strand of a banana!
